Great service...if you are signing up for insurance. Not so great service if you are cancelling. Our rate recently went up about $100 per month. Wanting to stay with Allstate, we called to see if anything could be done, and when nothing could be done, we shopped around like any reasonable consumer. Geico offered us better insurance for the rate we had previously went paying, so we decided to cancel. I spoke to three different individuals - one via customer service, and 2 at the office. All 3 said we had to do it in person; one said we could do it via fax. When I was unable to drive the half hour there and back (plus time in the office) to cancel the policy, and after I was unnecessarily rude, another agent said it could be done via email. Now I expect we'll have to pay for the two days it took for someone to admit that the cancellation could be done easily. I suspect the agency wanted me to come in so they could try to convince us to stay in person. While I'm sure this is not an unusual sales tactic, it's not a great tactic to use with someone who is old-fashioned about doing business and expects companies to provide good service from beginning to end. I communicated this to the agent who sent the cancellation documents, and received no apology. An apology would mean a great deal at this point.
